Christopher Baron (1941-2023) grew up in Birkdale, Lancashire and loved reading from a young age. After leaving school, he took a position with the National Westminster Bank. His love of books led him to buy and sell books, initially as a hobby, from the late 1960s. In 1985 due to job relocation from Natwest Bank, he moved to Hale, outside Altrincham in Greater Manchester. In 1991, he took early retirement and dedicated more time to dealing and collecting. He was a regular attendee at book fairs across the country, often joined at larger fairs by his wife Sheena (1953-2002). Christopher had an eclectic interest in many subjects, including Dylan Thomas, games and magic books and Terry Pratchett, to name but a few. He gained a great deal of joy from his books and from supporting customers to find what they were looking for. He continued to work right up until his death in 2023. His collection is a wonderful combination of stock for book fairs as well as personal treasures and favourites.

May
Leonard Rodwell spent most of his life as a plumber and heating engineer. When he retired, he visited Blackpool Pleasure Beach, a place he confessed he hadn’t been to for over 30 years. He noted the vibrant colours of the rides and that the air was packed with fun, happiness and enjoyment. As though hit by divine inspiration, he wanted to capture this atmosphere and decided to paint a picture to hang over his fireplace. He took some pictures with a disposable camera, bought some paints and set to work.
Later, he joined the local art society, and it was there that someone offered to buy his work. The more he painted, the more he sold. So, he set himself a task to paint 100 paintings capturing the fun colours and ambiance of Blackpool’s Pleasure Beach. Sadly, Mr Rodwell passed away a couple of years ago and these paintings in the studio of his Blackpool home which are being auctioned in this online timed auction, each lot being sold with a modest £30-£50 estimate.
