ANDREA SALVATORI (born 1975); 'Composizione 40100 #2 (In crescendo)', a 3D printed glazed earthenware sculptural form, inscribed title and signature dated 2019, height 46cm, diameter 28.5cm.
From a body of work of twelve unique pieces created by Salvatori in collaboration with WASP, the Italian 3D printer manufacturer.
'In this body of work Andrea Salvatori not only makes vases of no use whatsoever – been there done that – he brings the ‘immorality’ to a further level: he works with clay, possibly the most ‘functional’ medium in history of mankind and he works with one of the most advanced technologies recently developed 'to do things' (a 3D printer) leveraging it to ‘do nothing’ in fact. Salvatori literally challenges the 3D printer’s regular, programmed and monotonous layering process by force-inserting dozens of multi-dimensional spheres into the shaping form. Basically, he makes the machine go crazy and the digitally programmed shapes sometimes to even collapse. He destroys a mathematically conceived plan and forces in its very own entropic fun-plan.' - Marco Venturi, MadeinBritaly.
