Icons & Celebrity (Devon)

Lot 2007

THE BEATLES; a Fox of London beige jacket worn on the photoshoot for Strawberry Fields.

Provenance:

The photographer for the shoot was Don Long and it is through Don that the jacket came to our vendor. Between 1966 and 1968 our vendor was living with her aunt and uncle near Rye in Kent. Don Long was a close friend and staying with the family on a regular basis. One particular stay after the photoshoot for Strawberry Fields he presented the jacket to our vendor saying it had been used in the photoshoot. At the time the vendor was working as an extra in Carry on Camel with Kenneth Williams etc who also knew the family. From Kent Live we have a series of online images showing Don Long discussing the photoshoot with Paul McCartney with a further image of John Lennon wearing a near identical jacket. There was no further paperwork or provenance given, we do have a copy of one of the original official black and white photographs taken by Don on the day.

Originally the jacket had three or four buttons on each sleeve however the vendor (in his own words) unforgivably cut them off leaving just one button at the time as he thought it was uncool!

Estimated at £500 - £800
