Lot 1055

MARILYN MONROE INTEREST; a pair of Raphael Rome c.1950's metallic silver heeled loafers, reputed to be the personal property of Marilyn Monroe, with a 5cm block heel, with half leather half steel plate to back, a silver tone hardware double 'C' and button snaffle detail to front, lined with cream soft leather, with gold tone printed logo to inside, with hand nailed leather tongue to base, and small '8' stamped to base.

Provenance:

The shoes are reputed to have come from Anna Strasbourg to the vendor in the 1980's, and were part of the inherited estate of the late Marilyn Monroe.

The vendor was married to Elliot Kastner, and a family friend of Anna Strasbourg who was married to Lee Strasbourg, Marilyn Monroe's acting coach and main beneficiary to Marilyn's estate after her untimely death in 1962. After Lee's death in 1987, the estate, including the shoes, were inherited by Anna Strasbourg, who gifted the shoes to the current vendor. The rest of the estate remained in storage until 1999, when Christie's, New York, had a Personal Property of Marilyn Monroe auction. The shoes have been in storage in New York until this year. The letter is personally written by the vendor and comes with two photographs of Anna Strasbourg holding the 1983 'Brown Sports Yearbook', and two photographs of Elliot Kastner with Anna.
