Lot 65

WWII GERMAN LUFTWAFFE: a rare and unique collection of 8mm cine film reels dating from 1939 to approximately 1942, filmed by a Luftwaffe ground crew personnel, who prior to the war was a hairdresser in Berlin. The footage covers day to day family life in Berlin from 1939, with footage of a trip to the zoo, circus and fairground, a boat trip on a river, picnic by a lake, winter skiing, most of which is in colour.
During active service, footage moves onto Poland late 1939 early 1940. A great deal of footage was taken from a moving train and captures industrial areas as well as countryside through the Netherlands and France, where bombed out buildings and airfields are also seen. Footage of Luftwaffe ground crew can be seen clearing out the bombed Brequet factory in France. Moving into bombed marshalling yards, soldiers repairing track and bridges, with a steam locomotive passing over a repaired bridge.
Time away from duties pictures music and entertainment in a forest, before moving to the Ukraine in the winter of 1941/42, shots capture Russian POWs, locals in a village. Footage also taken from a Ju52 transport aircraft over the snow covered Ukraine, also coverage of a German funeral on the Ukrainian front in the winter of 1941/42.
The remaining 8mm films are period propaganda reels, Fritz and Fratz cartoons, swimming and diving of the Olympics in 1936. There is more footage not detailed.
