An important group of medals relating to Company Sergeant Major George William Lloyd, D.C.M., comprising Military Cross inscribed '3/1177 2.C.S.M. G.W. Lloyd D.C.M. King's L'pool Regt', a Distinguished Conduct in the Field George V Medal awarded to the same, a Queen Victoria South Africa Medal with three bars awarded to 4476 Sgt. G.W. Lloyd. Gren. GDS. an Edward VII South Africa Medal with twin bars awarded to 4476 Serjt: G. Lloyd. Grenadier Guards., a pair of WWI medals to his son George, awarded to 122880 Pte. G. T. Lloyd M.G.C. and a George VI medal awarded to 19095255 Tpr. G. Sandie. 15/19H, with Palestine 1945-48 bar, also a group of research and ephemera, including original contemporary photographs of both father and son. Lloyd was awarded the D.C.M on 1st Jan 1917 'for conspicuous gallantry in action. He greatly assisted in the consolidation of a strong point. Later, he assisted to carry in wounded men under heavy fire.' His military cross was awarded on 26th July 1918 after 'This warrant officer took command of his company after all his officers had become casualties, and showed great skill in choosing lines of resistance and in-getting his men into position. He controlled his men with admirable coolness and judgment, inflicting heavy casualties on the enemy by well-ordered rifle fire, and holding his ground to the last moment.
