MAJOR JOHN GEDGE (1903-2001); an extensive collection of watercolours of Random Sketches and Architectural Notes, contained in three folio sized folders, many laid down on paper, with the first folio containing forty-six drawings with an index at the front identifying where the buildings and scenes were painted, the second and third folders containing many watercolours and pen and ink architectural drawings with many loose, with pencil descriptions to many below those stuck down, but neither have an index and some pages have had the sketches taken out, together with, by the same artist, a watercolour of an unknown church, 20 x 16cm, and an architectural watercolour titled 'Mereworth Castle, Kent, Colen Campbell Arch't 1722-1725, for the Hon. John Fane (later Earl of Westmorland)' and dated 1985, 42 x 75cm, both framed and glazed (2).

Major John Gedge was an architect in Bedford and his specialist area of interest was the renovation of churches. He was a talented artist in his spare time travelling all over England painting buildings and landscapes.
