Lot 241

ARTHUR DELANEY (1927-1987); oil on board, 'Trams On A Bend', signed, 24.5 x 16.5cm, framed and glazed.

Provenance:

Given by Arthur to the vendor who was acting as his accountant. Bears inscription verso 'As yet I have no title for this painting - it is really just an industrial scene containing the little things that appeal to me - terraced cottages, a mill or two and I still think trams are a good way to introduce human interest. I have made the mood a peaceful one, sort of late evening with the last of the sun just catching the mill tops. This is not an actual place but the buildings are based on some early drawings that were made in the Ancoats area of the city but the bend in the road was pure imagination to make the composition a bit more interesting. I only mention this to you so you won't go looking for the place, Sincere Good Wishes, Arthur P.S. Why don't you give it a title?' Below this is written 'Trams On A Bend'
