MICHAEL J BROWNE (BRITISH CONTEMPORARY, born 1963); a very large oil on canvas ‘Manchester United in Procession’, signed and dated 2013, 106 x 168cm, framed.

Provenance:

Purchased directly from the artist by the present owner.

N.B. The oil painting depicts Manchester United footballers and management including Eric Cantona, Wayne Rooney, Bryan Robson, Roy Keene, David Beckham, Paul Scholes, Norman Whiteside, Gordon Strachan and Sammy McIlroy, standing in a Roman capriccio beside former managers Sir Matt Busby and Sir Alex Ferguson.

The artist was born in Moss Side, Manchester, and grew up in a difficult household. He found escapism in art from a very young age and was inspired by anything he saw around him turning his creativity into something positive focusing on drawing. At a young age he went to live with his art teacher and went on to study at Chelsea School of Art followed by MA at Manchester Metropolitan University. The artist has always been particularly fascinated with the Renaissance masters and has become renowned for depicting well-known figures encompassing topic of cultural importance, history or religion. He shot to fame in 1997 with his work ‘The Art of the Game’ depicting Eric Cantona as Jesus.

Collections by appointment only from the Monday after the sale from 11.00am to 5:00pm and then Tuesday to Friday from 10:00am to 5:00pm. Items that are suitable for posting will be charged at our standard rate, or you can arrange your own courier, by appointment only. Details will be sent to you after the auction. Small items can be transferred between branches free of charge, but we cannot guarantee a date of delivery
