JOHN LENNON – THE IMAGINE JACKET.
To be sold at 2pm on Thursday 5th December.
The black velvet jacket owned and worn by John Lennon, gifted, displayed and exhibited, and retaining the original badge on the left lapel.
2024 sees the 50th anniversary of John last wearing the jacket, as well as his only USA billboard Chart solo number 1 in 1974 - leading to this incredible piece of history being offered today.
A percentage of the proceeds of the sale will be given to the Lennon Imagine Trust to continue John’s legacy in Liverpool by supporting the trust's 'Music Education Experience' for the children of Liverpool’s schools and charity groups, by introducing them to repurposed musical instruments through a play setting, in the hope to inspire the next John Lennon or Beatles!
For further information, please contact liverpool@adampartridge.co.uk or call 0151 709 8070.
Provenance:
Purchased for John by Tony King of Apple Music from 'Take 6' in the early 1970s.
Worn regularly by John, including in the film 'Imagine'
Gifted to Harry Nilsson’s wife, Una in 1974, whilst they were staying at the Pierre Hotel.
Gifted, in turn, to a business colleague of Harry Nilsson.
Displayed at the Hard Rock Café alongside John’s army jacket.
Purchased by the current owner in 2000 at the annual Beatles convention celebrating the opening of Paul McCartney’s Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts.
Displayed at The Beatles Story, Liverpool since 2000.
We would like to thank The Beatles Story for their continued support and their allowance to grant permission for photographs to be taken of the jacket alongside the other iconic items in their collection, namely the Imagine piano and a pair of John Lennon's glasses.
Photographs given by kind permission of Robert Deutsch and Bob Gruen.
We would like to also thank Julia Lennon Baird for allowing us to use the photograph of her with the jacket.
