HELEN LAYFIELD BRADLEY MBE (1900-1979); oil on board, 'The Men are playing Peggy' signed with fly monogram, with inscribed label verso 'The men are playing Peggy. Please let us us stay and watch'. Mother and Aunt Frances took George and I to meet Miss Carter (who wore pink) and there was a man just about to give Peggy stick. The men all cheered as he paced out the length. That's the longest so far, they cried, just then Miss Carter came along, alas we had to go home, and to bed, and the year was 1907', 29 x 36cm, framed.
Provenance:Frank Marshall November 2006, lot 1181 for the sum of £15,000.
