Lot 1000

A 1989 Royale Sabre two seater sports car convertible (kit car), registration LSV 877
Condition: Overall Good not seen running

Background and Build:
The 1989 Royale Sabre is a kit car built on a Ford Sierra base, featuring a 2-litre double overhead cam (DOHC) petrol engine that has been fully rebuilt by the current owner. The car’s fibreglass body was supplied in component form by Royale Motors, fitted by the current owner, and subsequently removed, prepped, and painted in a two-tone scheme of Porsche Zyclam and Jaguar Cream. This work, completed approximately 20 years ago, involved hundreds of hours of meticulous care and attention. The owner has extensively used the car, including trips to Europe, with no reported issues. The car has always been dry-stored in a garage but has not been on the road for several years.

Exterior Condition:

  • Bodywork: The fibreglass body is in good condition, with no initial signs of crazing, cracks, or major damage. The body panels are well-aligned, indicating careful assembly and fitting. Given the age of the paintwork (20 years), it has held up exceptionally well due to being stored indoors and well-maintained.
  • Hood: The hood was not able to be fitted at the time of inspection, but is believed to be intact and waterproof.
  • Paintwork: The paintwork is in good condition with a finish in Porsche Zyclam and Jaguar Cream. The colours retain a deep gloss with only minor signs of age and wear, such as small chips or scuffs that are expected for a car of this age. There are no significant blemishes or areas of fading.
  • Chrome: The chrome components are in average condition, showing signs of minor pitting and tarnishing in places. While still presentable, some attention would be beneficial to restore them to a higher standard.
  • Wheels: The wheels are sourced from a Cosworth and have been modified to fit the car with Lada hubcaps. They appear to be in good condition overall, with no obvious signs of corrosion or damage, though they would benefit from a thorough cleaning and detailing.

Mechanical Condition:

  • Engine: The 2-litre DOHC petrol engine, which was fully rebuilt by the current owner, is reported to produce approximately 120 bhp. At the time of inspection, the engine could not be started due to a flat battery, but the owner states that it runs well when charged. Given that the car has been in storage and not driven for a few years, a full mechanical inspection, fluid changes, and servicing is advised before starting
  • Ancillary Parts: Most of the ancillary parts are sourced from Ford, ensuring relatively easy sourcing for maintenance and repair parts. The use of reliable components supports the car's good mechanical condition.

Interior Condition:

  • Interior: The interior is fitted with parts from a Fiesta XR2. It is in very good condition, showing minimal signs of wear and aging. The seats, dashboard, and door panels are well-preserved, with no significant tears, cracks, or fading. The interior presents well and matches the car’s overall aesthetic.

Documentation:

  • V5C Not Present at Inspection: The V5C registration document was not available at the time of inspection, but the owner states that it is available. Ensuring the V5C is present and matches the vehicle is important for legal and registration purposes.

Other Components:

  • Electrical System: The electrical system appears to be functional, but due to the flat battery, this could not be fully assessed at the time of inspection. The battery should be replaced or recharged, and all electrical systems (lights, indicators, etc.) should be tested.
  • Brakes and Suspension: Not fully tested at the time of inspection, but considering the car’s history of maintenance and care, they are expected to be in good condition. However, they should be checked and possibly serviced given the car's period of inactivity.

Overall Assessment: The 1989 Royale Sabre 2-seater sports car, registration LSV 877, is in overall good condition. It reflects a well cared for, custom-built kit car with significant effort spent on both mechanical and aesthetic aspects. While the engine could not be started at the time of inspection due to a flat battery, the car is reported to be mechanically sound and was used reliably in the past. The paintwork is good with no signs of fibreglass crazing, and the interior is in very good condition. Some minor restoration is needed for the chrome fittings, and general mechanical checks are recommended due to its period of storage.

We advise the cambelt be inspected before starting for the first time.
