A very interesting archive relating to Frederick William Brown, a naval captain in the mid 19th century. The lot comprises his gilt tasselled epaulettes in original tin, four watercolours including one titled 'Slayer Catching 1830', 13.5 x 20cm, another with billowing masted vessel and with numerous figures within, signed with initials 'WH' and dated 1869, 18.5 x 29.5cm, a further watercolour of masted vessels in rough seas, 16.5 x 23cm, and a small watercolour depicting a three-masted vessel near rocks, 12.25 x 17cm, all framed and glazed, also a photograph inscribed 'One of grandfather's ships', an oval portrait miniature on card, a small oval portrait miniature on ivory, a document dated 1860 detailing his appointment as chief engineer, a Napoleon and Josephine commemorative medallion and an oval portrait miniature of his wife Sophia Letitia Meserai, daughter of Philip Meserai, an English spy in Napoleon's court.
